NTEU is determined to improve the TSA workplace culture by representing TSA employees nationwide and ensuring that your voice is heard at the agency, in Congress, in the media, and in the courts.

Well Connected: Chapter 331 Interim President Ken MacLeod, far left, was one of the NTEU TSA leaders who along with NTEU National President Colleen M. Kelley, met with TSA Acting Administrator Gale Rossides in July. Interim Vice President Lauro Colon was part of the delegation that met with Rossides in October.

Thanks to our representational success, NTEU has seen rapid growth at TSA with a strong network of chapters at airports from Miami to New York to Texas and California. NTEU continues to organize at other airports from coast to coast.

All NTEU TSA chapters operate with local staff attorneys and labor relations experts to represent TSOs in critical workplace issues such as promotions, disciplinary actions, shift bidding and scheduling, overtime and leave, as well as performance appraisals, disability accommodations and other Equal Employment Opportunity issues.

Just a few examples of our successful representation efforts include:

  • Getting a five-year TSO’s removal for AWOL rescinded after presenting evidence of the employee’s good record and the fact that the absences qualified for leave under the Family Medical Leave Act;

  • Getting a proposed removal of a dual-certified TSO for failing recertification rescinded after presenting evidence of training deficiencies and disparate employee treatment within TSA; and

  • Getting a three-day suspension reduced for a TSO who allegedly verbally abused a supervisor. NTEU took the case before TSA’s peer review panel and proved that the supervisor instigated the confrontation. The employee also was awarded two days of back pay.
